Are you kidding me?

Maybe I'm overrating the notion of "Exact Science" and the sense of responsibility of a scientist. I don't quite understand! How can someone sell this crap to public knowing that it is JUST nonsense.

Joking around with abstract concepts in physics is definitely one of our best funs as physicists. Nevertheless, it can be really dangerous if you extend it to a public talk ignoring the fact that a lot of people in the audience don't have the filter to distinguish what is physics and what is ....!!!
Here I'm assuming that the speaker of today's colloquium could actually comprehend that pretty much all the things he talked about after the first 10 minutes of his talk were absurd!.

Western view of science is getting poisoned in societies which are based on two facts: producing more, advertising better!
Publish more papers and give more interesting talks with a lot of jokes... that is the prescription for becoming a successful scientist in the eyes of public. Who cares what you talk about, who cares what you have actually done, you just need to look cool in the eyes of public.
It is not that difficult to achieve since Public is ignorant of scientific facts. You just need to be a good politician!

PROPAGANDA! That's what I'm talking about... "Elegant Universe"..."Not even wrong"...
What do you want to achieve? fame? money? ...
Whatever it is, it's too cheap for a scientist.

I definitely understand how these kind of books or talks can get more people interested in physics... There is no doubt about it...It is indeed essential for the growth of next generation of scientists in the field. Nonetheless, it is extremely tricky... You need to know your limits... Don't go beyond what you are allowed!

As soon as you get the public audience it becomes extremely tempting to spit out any stupid wild idea that comes to your mind. The wilder the idea is the cooler and the more brilliant you look in the eyes of your audience. Who are you fooling?

I can't stand sitting in such a talk! It goes against my idealistic image of science!

Please purify your heart when you do science.
